Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists Jake and Karen can help.
"We’ve all felt sluggish, lethargic and tired after a bad night’s sleep and we’ve all experienced the benefits of good sleep. Good sleep can improve your pain, your metabolism, your mental health and your immunity. But what happens if you’re stuck in a cycle of poor sleep? What if you seem to do all the right things but still wake up feeling like you’ve been hit by a truck? Exercise can be a great tool to help you improve your sleep." Ref: Written by Jonathan Beale (Accredited Exercise Physiologist)
If you know you need to start exercising and you are unsure of what to do, start with an appointment with Jake or Karen to get an assessment of what you need and a plan to move forward either supervised or independently. They also assist with chronic disease management, exercise groups and NDIS participants.
We are thrilled to welcome two practitioners to our team who grew up in our region.
Andrew brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and Zac is starting his career with us. It is this mix of experience that allows our team to provide the level of care for our patients and the mentoring support to our team.
Zac was born and raised in Cootamundra. Zac attended boarding school in Sydney where he was heavily involved in Rugby Union, basketball and Australian Rules Football. This developed his interest in studying health and he completed Bachelor degrees in both Health and Rehabilitation Science and Physiotherapy at Charles Sturt University.
Andrew returned home to Wagga Wagga in 2021, after spending 17 years away in Sydney and the Gold Coast, studying, learning and developing his craft in physiotherapy and business. Andrew has over 10 years experience and is extremely passionate about delivering optimal health care back to the Wagga community, a City that offered him so much lifestyle and sporting opportunities as he was growing up.
We know how important the role is of any support team in a health business.
Our support team works hard to ensure your experience and health journey with Active Physiotherapy is positive, smooth and happy.
Who inspires you?
Mum - she is very kind hearted and a calming person to be around and she is very life smart. I wouldn't want to follow in anyone else's footsteps.
What do you do to keep active, healthy & happy?
I take time to enjoy my own company. Exercise with friends to stay healthy physically and also mentally.
What is the best advice you have been given?
Do what you love - life is short, live it while you have it.
What part of your job do you enjoy the most?
Interacting with patients seeing the difference from their first visit to their last and the journey between. Also the new friendships I have made with the staff, we have a great team.
How would your friends describe you?
Selfless, cheerful, genuine and a homebody.
In March we raised money for Kidney Health Week- we were thrilled to donate money to them in support of their quest to raise awareness of kidney disease and to show support to our patients dealing with this disease.
In April we have chosen to support the charitable foundation called BrAshA-T to raise money to support research into finding a cure and as a means for creating a support network for other families dealing with A-T (Ataxia-telangiectasia). You can read about a local Wagga Wagga family who have 2 children with A-T on the website and their quest to raise money for research. We are honoured to help. Coming to work each day knowing that you not only help those who come for treatment but you help to donate to worthy causes together with your patient makes your day brighter.
What is the Active Giving Project?
We have always been a team that likes to give back and help others. Each month we change what charity, event or fundraiser we support and for every new patient that attends our practice that month, we donate an amount of money. These donations are a way to say thank you to them for being a patient at Active and we are thrilled to be working with them, to make not only a difference in their lives, but others at the same time. Together we can make a difference.
Our second student for 2021!
Our second student for 2021 starts in April and we thank our community for helping us to provide them with critical learning and mentoring opportunities in their final placement of their degree.
Over the years we have hosted many student placements, these students are in their final year of their studies and have already completed 3 years as well as a number of clinical experience placements in different health settings. At the end of their placements with our clinic, we expect the experience to allow our students to be treating you at the same level as a graduated and fully qualified Physiotherapist.
To allow students more opportunities to learn we have a minimal cost to see the student - $20 per consultation. All consultations have close supervision and mentoring from senior team members.
Never stop learning, for when we stop learning, we stop growing.
Have you tried to call our rooms on a Tuesday between 12:15pm - 1:30pm and you hear the answering machine? Do you wonder what we are doing?
Being a busy practice with team members working different shifts at different locations we don’t always get to see each other. We prioritise this time to share knowledge through tutorials, meetings and webinars whilst also catching up. It is important to us that our team feel included and supported.
We are grateful to have so many incredible specialists and experienced physiotherapists within our practice, we continue to educate and learn off each other to ensure that we are always bringing you the latest research and best service we can.
