Movember with Paul Heffernan!

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.

Paul Heffernan, founding director and titled physiotherapist, first started his very well known participation in Movember in 2013 with his group of childhood friends. They created a group named “Wagga Mobrows” and used a competition between themselves to see who could come up with the craziest ‘Mo’ to raise as much money as they could. We asked Paul why he likes to participate:

  • Raise awareness.

  • Connect with friends - It's been a great way to stay connected with friends when we all have busy lives. We have reached an age where we need to have more regular medical and social checks.

  • Help men live longer.

  • I work with men undergoing prostate cancer management before and after prostatectomies and I am passionate about men’s awareness around these issues.

He will be participating again this year so if you feel sorry for the rest of the team having to look at his chosen style (which is always well planned) and want to support the fundraising efforts you can speak to our support team.

As spring is in the air and covid restrictions continue, golf is proving to become more and more popular.

For those of us who love golf, one of the great elements inherent in the game is the desire to always improve yourself on the golf course. But the truth is, many golfers may find it difficult to improve their game or find it challenging to avoid pain or niggles related to their golf or describe themselves as ‘not fit for golf’. Golfers of all abilities are often unaware of the physical limitations that restrict and potentially cause physical stress or limit the technical aspect of their game.

Active Physiotherapy is now offering a specific golf performance assessment.

The main purpose of the screening is to help improve performance, golf fitness and reduce pain or risk of injury. The screening involves a series of physical tests including video analysis of their golf swing, to assess physical abilities and limitations which can potentially affect their golf swing/game.

Following the assessment, it is advisable to include at least one follow-up visit for review of exercises and adjustments necessary for each individual. A personalised golf-specific exercise program can also be provided which can either be reviewed and performed with your physiotherapist on a weekly basis or approximately 4-6 weeks later. A re-assessment of the screening will then be required at a later date, however time frames for this will depend on goals created with your physiotherapist.

If you would like to improve your physical abilities enabling you to play better golf for longer, contact our clinic to book your golf performance assessment today!

Fisiocrem is a massage gel containing natural herbal ingredients traditionally used for temporary relief of muscular aches and pains!

We have been using Fisiocrem for years at Active Physiotherapy, our practitioners use it regularly within consultations.

We like that it doesn’t contain parabens and hydroxybenzoates, but uses plant-based active ingredients of Arnica, Hypericum and Calendula that have been used for many years in traditional folklore and healing.

If you would like to try a sample please ask our friendly support team for a sample.
