What is it like to be a student physiotherapist at Active Physiotherapy
The team is thrilled to share with you that we are expanding the practice located at 1 Lewisham Avenue. We are building a new purpose-built building which will join our current one. We have some incredible facilities!
We asked for input from all our team about what they felt the practice needed to allow us to move into the future to provide the services that you need to live your best lives. We are so thankful to our NDIS practice committee for your input on what we needed to include to ensure all our patients have their needs met. Nothing makes us happier than knowing that our work makes someone's life better.
We wanted to share it with you first. You have supported us and we look forward to being able to support you into the future.
The program aims to help you:
Move more through affordable exercise classes led by university-qualified professionals
Improve your quality of life and overall health
Connect with like-minded people in a fun and friendly setting
Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists provide safe, supportive and age-appropriate classes that are tailored to your needs and abilities. Want to know more on how exercise can help – download ESSA’s free eBook on Older Adults and Exercise here.
Let’s get moving today!
To ensure this class is right for you, please make contact with Jake via mail@activephysiowagga.com.au or call (02) 6925 7734.
Please note that EVERYONE who enters our practices including patients, carers with patients, staff, visitors and delivery drivers must use the QR code including patients who are in the appointment diary - this will enable the accessibility to information by contract tracers easier as required by the NSW Health directive coming into effect on July 12.
You are also required to wear a mask whilst the direction remains in force from NSW Health.
Eden grew up on a farm near Harden and studied Physiotherapy at CSU in Orange, before moving to Wagga in 2016 to start her career in Paediatrics.
After just over two years, she moved to Tasmania for a work opportunity and a beautiful sea change! After a year of work and adventures, Covid put her plans to move to the UK on hold, which saw Eden and her partner move back to Wagga and where she joined the Active team!
Special interest areas:
Working with babies and children aged 0-5yrs with developmental delays or disabilities, and her work with Freedom Wheels to help children with a disability ride a bike!
What Eden enjoys about living in Wagga:
She loves living in Wagga as it is close to her family! It also has such a friendly and fun community with different social and sporting events. She loves living near the river for water skiing and walking her dog along all the beautiful reserves and walking tracks!
We know how important the role is of any support team in a health business.
Our support team works hard to ensure your experience and health journey with Active Physiotherapy is positive, smooth and happy.
Who inspires you? I am most inspired by people working hard to achieve their goals which I see daily at Active and also my mum who travels as a Nurse to rural and remote areas across Australia.
What do you do to keep active, healthy & happy? I have a huge passion for team sports and play Netball, Basketball and AFL. I also enjoy snowboarding and waterskiing.
What is the best advice you have been given? To enjoy what you're doing everyday and if you don't enjoy it that you do have the power to change it.
What part of your job do you enjoy the most?
As a support staff team member I enjoy seeing people graduate (not needing further treatment) as they have achieved their goals.
How would your friends describe you?
As a sporty, adventurous person who is friendly to everyone.
In June we chose to give to Heart Kids Australia at https://www.heartkids.org.au/ on behalf of a beautiful little boy whose life was cut way too short by heart disease. His parents are so inspiring with their community work to help others.
In July we are excited to be giving to Wagga’s Sunflower House whose mission is to
deliver a consistently reliable, safe and inclusive mainstay for people living with mental illness. We provide the necessary life skills and programs and facilitate appropriate interaction with other local mental health services, ensuring an overall holistic approach to life/wellness. This ultimately introduces people back into the community and breaks down the destructive effects of isolation.
Our physiotherapist Ben Frizzell will be running 300km in the month of July to also raise money for Sunflower House. We are so proud of him!
We are honoured and privileged to help.
Coming to work each day knowing that you not only help those who come for treatment but you help to donate to worthy causes together with your patient makes your day brighter.
What is the Active Giving Project?
We have always been a team that likes to give back and help others. Each month we change what charity, event or fundraiser we support and for every new patient that attends our practice that month, we donate an amount of money. These donations are a way to say thank you to them for being a patient at Active and we are thrilled to be working with them, to make not only a difference in their lives, but others at the same time. Together we can make a difference.
My name is Chantal Smith, and I am a physiotherapy undergraduate student at Charles Sturt University in Albury. I will be undertaking my fourth-year placement at Active Physiotherapy Wagga from June 14th to July 16th, 2021, which I am really enthusiastic about.
Interesting things about myself - My partner and I reside in the little country town of Beechworth, Victoria, with our dog (yes I am a "crazy dog mum").
I have a significant interest in the physiotherapy profession, particularly in paediatrics and women's health.
Fun fact: I am a contracted firefighter for the Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning, where I spend a lot of time in the Australian bush conducting maintenance, fire prevention, fire suppression and other activities
We seem to have quite a few enthusiastic golfers amongst the active community.
Our golf screening has taken off and in celebration of people moving their bodies in an awesome social sport we are giving away a Bridgestone soft E12 golf ball to anyone who mentions this from this newsletter.
Do you know a child who would like to ride a bike? Contact TAD today to book your or your client’s free custom bike assessment with Eden (one of the Physiotherapists at Active).
All assessments are free and no-obligation for anyone who would like to try out riding a custom bike.
TAD is a not-for-profit organization and an NDIS provider. We work with skilled engineers who volunteer their time to create customized assistive technology.
TAD’s Freedom Wheels bikes enable people with a disability to ride a bike for the first time. This is a tailored made bike to suit the individual’s height, weight and cognitive or physical disability.

We are thrilled to be able to share our knowledge to physiotherapy students. We have undertaken to have 8 students from Charles Sturt University this year and numerous high school students for work experience.
Active Physiotherapy was my first 4th-year placement for 2021.
On my first day, I was nervous to start a new placement without another student present. I was met with friendly support staff when I arrived, who introduced me to Mandy, Paul and Dave. Again, I was met with a friendly welcome.
Mandy and I went through the induction and the tour of the clinic and then hit the ground running and observed my first patients with Joe. Every single health professional at this clinic has a passion for teaching and their profession. Active Physio cares about their clients achieving their goals...
Do you know our next physiotherapist?
We are looking for a new graduate or experienced physiotherapist to join our amazing team. Here at Active Physiotherapy, we genuinely care about helping our community and looking after our own.
Have a confidential chat with one of our Directors Paul Heffernan or Dave O’Brien, or Practice Manager Mandy Reid about an opportunity with us for yourself, or for a friend or family member.
